The Art and Science of Flourishing

Is it happening in your life?

Flourishing will be my word for 2026

I’m a huge fan of distilled ideas. Lately I’ve been chewing on all these buzz words in the health and wellness space - biohacking, longevity, blue zones, health span, wellness, lifestyle medicine, functional medicine - all great words - but often so scattered.

I stumbled on this word - Flourishing. I love it for so many reasons. Here is a deep dive on this topic.

Flourishing is the state of living with sustained vitality, meaning, connection, and growth across the whole person - not merely the absence of disease or distress, but the presence of life well-lived.

I was thinking of how many areas of life it can impact.

My commitment to you in 2026 is that each week I’m going to help you find new ways to impact a segment of your life to take it from wherever you are now to the point of flourishing!

How’s your sex life?

0-10? 0 being non existent or bad sex and 10 being it’s like Christmas morning - every. single. time. A flourishing sex life leans towards 10.

How’s your sleep quality?

It ranges from - I can’t sleep, I’m tired all the time - to I wake up refreshed and ready to conquer the world, I get all the deep/REM sleep my body needs and I don’t think it can get any better - that is a flourishing sleep life.

How’s your health…your relationships…your purpose in life…

Can you say those areas are thriving and flourishing?

If you can think of any area of life that you don’t think you’re ready to brag about - I want to challenge you to assess what it will take to get it to the point of flourishing.

When I think of that word - I think of abundance - margins - room to share with someone else. I think of a garden with so many heirloom tomatoes that you can’t eat them all so you gotta share them with friends and neighbors.

When I think of flourishing, I sadly don’t see it marketed well. I see a lot of faking it in the world. I think a lot of us are barely getting by let alone flourishing. In fact I bet some of you reading this might even be offended with my naive ideological pipe dream that we can find areas of flourishing in our lives today.

I’m so passionate about this in the realm of health and wellness because recently I’ve been around different folks who are in the golden years age bracket. Some seem so sad, so depressed and so unhealthy that I fear they have lost their zeal to live. Others I’m playing golf with, they have their Ikigai figured out and are thrilled to live another day and see what new possibilities the day brings.

Pick one area of your life…

Take a breath and think about one area of your life that you would like to be flourishing - so good that you would love to tell everyone how great it’s going. What area would that be? If you want to let me know, I’d love to cover that topic in an upcoming newsletter.

But even if you don’t share it with me, ask yourself:

1 - Why do I want this to be an area of flourishing?

2 - How would my life be different if this area was flourishing?

3 - What is the biggest obstacle in my path that is preventing me from growing towards that area being one of flourishing rather than stagnant or lackluster?

I look forward to playing a small part in helping you experience flourishing in your life.

I’d love to hear about that one area of flourishing you’re looking for. 👋

I think happy couples make the world go round. I also believe men can do more to lead and love in their lives. In light of that, I have found the following four books to be the 4 books every man should read and every woman should want their man to read.
