Greetings, nerdlings! Welcome to the fifth round of “Gamer Grub”
…The quasi-weekly (or less…) segment here on 1up where I will take some of our favorite
snacks, treats, and guilty pleasures and show you how to make them as healthily and cheaply as possible!
Ok everyone. i want you to read the next words i type in your best George Takei voice possible. ready?
I don’t know why i waited so long to try this. i’ve seen images and recipes for these tasty morsels floating around the interwebs for years, but had never done more than given them a passing glance. this makes me mad. i feel like i’ve missed out on years of enjoyment!
today i am showing you how to make my new favorite snack (which angela and i are mowing down on as i type this…)
“Cheesy” Kale Chips
These are so healthy and amazing…you won’t believe how much flavor is packed into these little chips! go out now and buy the ingredients. i’ll wait.
1 head of curly leafed kale
1/4 cup nutritional yeast flakes (i was suspicious too…trust me. this is good stuff!)
1tbsp olive oil
sprinkling of salt
Next, toss it around with a quarter cup of the nutritional yeast (this is what gives it that cheezy flavor, so feel free to use more or less as you like), and the salt
line a baking sheet with parchment paper (i’m not entirely sure how necessary this is…) and lay out your kale. bake it for 4 minutes, than turn all the leaves over and bake it for another 5 minutes. keep an eye on it. it goes from “almost there” to “omg take it out of the oven NOW” in about 30 seconds…
once the time is up and your kitchen smells AWESOME, feel free to dig in 🙂 these puppies are super healthy, and fairly cheap! i got about 2 cups of the yeast and the head of kale for $3…and only used half the kale!
how good is it you ask? Angela is licking the bowl right now. if that isn’t a positive endorsement, i don’t know what is 🙂
enjoy! i plan on finding more uses for this nutritional yeast stuff…it is astonishingly good!
